Nico Williams and FC Barcelona have agreed personal terms, with the highly-rated Athletic Bilbao winger expected to sign a long-term contract that would keep him at the club until June 2031.

According to Fabrizio Romano, one of the most trusted sources in football transfers, both Barcelona and Nico Williams’ representatives have come to an agreement over personal terms. The final hurdle now remains: reaching a deal with Athletic Club on the transfer fee.

If all goes as planned, Nico Williams will undergo a medical and officially join Barcelona’s new era under Hansi Flick. The deal would be a major statement of intent by Barça, who are looking to add depth to their frontline ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Arsenal and Bayern Miss Out

This development is a major blow to Arsenal and Bayern Munich, both of whom had been interested in the Spanish winger’s signature this summer.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Nico Williams has turned down a move to Bayern Munich one more time.

Despite the interest from top European clubs, Nico Williams had already made it clear that his heart is set on joining Barcelona, where he is expected to form a fearsome partnership with his Spain national teammate and friend, Lamine Yamal.

Where Will Nico Fit In?

Fans and pundits alike are now questioning how Hansi Flick will organize his attacking unit, which already includes Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and possibly Nico Williams.

The arrival of the 21-year-old could drastically influence Barcelona’s dynamics in the wide and front areas, potentially giving them extra fluidity, ability to make dangerous crosses and runs into the box, thanks to having one of the most exciting front threes in Europe.
